Salary Negotiation- Very Important
While going for a new job, salary negotiation becomes a vital procedure.
You have to think about additional cost factors also . These cost factors may or may not be quantifiable but it is important that you should make yourself aware of that in order to get a good salary.
The salary that you may want to get as far as your new job is concerned, should not be a fixed figure. Rather it should be in a range. This factor is very vital as during the whole process of your salary negotiation, the total cost involved may not be clear in the beginning.
The expected salary should be disclosed to the employer after knowing all the implications of the new job. These things are required to be calculated in a proper way. There are chances that one of the undisclosed expenses may involve health insurance. According to this policy, you may be required to pay a certain amount from your pocket for each pay period. Even if it is a small amount according to a particular period of time, an annual calculation may make it very big!
One more example can be the dress code. The new dress code of your company may require that you should wear a formal dress, and you would not be allowed to wear a casual dress in your present job. This could upgrade your wardrobe cost quite heavily. Commuting to the workplace is another aspect while negotiating a new job. If the workplace is far from your home, it may involve additional expense.
Overtime hours will be paid or not? This is another issue that has to be taken care of. If the company demands that you should work even after the office hours, or if the new job requires you to be on call 24 hours, then you must divide the actual salary with your total working hours and you will come to know whether you are in a loss or gain.
When you will compare these things with your present job, you will get a rough idea of the additional expenses that you have to bear in the new job.
