If you want to become a doctor, then your quest should begin early in life. Even at a primarily level, the focus on science, biology, chemistry and mathematics is vital to getting a head start once you reach higher institution. While a lot of career option only require a degree of four years, provided by the average college or university, but in order to get a Bachelor of Science degree is just the next step on your way to make a good career in the field of medicine.
After having the Bachelor of Science degree, you are eligible to apply for and take the Medical College Admission Test (MCAT). This test will depict as if you have the right knowledge to attend medical school. You need to pass the test in order to gain entrance. By now the student must have decided on a specialty to focus on and the next few years of the training will enhance the skills required for the particular area that the student (future doctor) will practice.
After a successful completion of the institution, it does not mean that the candidate has got the full title of doctor. After this, several years of work at a medical facility are also required. It is called “residency” and provides a perfect experience for the student.
After working under an established medical doctor, the “resident” will perform the same types of functions. These will be reviewed by superiors to confirm that the functions are correct.
Finally, after going through all this, the future-doctor will sit for his State’s Medical Board Examinations. After clearing this last hurdle, the hard work of years will pay off and you will have a title of Doctor conferred on your name.
It does not means that it is the end of the new doctor’s study. There is a requirement to keep up with new developments in the field of medicine and medical procedures.
It is necessary that each and every doctor in the US must have either the Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) degree or the Doctor of Osteopathy (O.D.) degree. While these two degrees vary in their approach to treatment of illnesses and diseases, they are both acceptable to the Medical Association.
